In the summer of 2006 I traveled to Russia and participated in a climb of Mt. Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. The trip was organized and led by Phil Ershler of Internation Mountain Guides. Phil was the first American to climb Everest from the Tibetan side of the mountain. He and his wife became the first married couple to climb the "Seven Summits" together. In the end, weather prevented anyone from our team reaching the summit of Mt. Elbrus, but the trip was a lot of fun and I learned a great deal from Phil. We spent time in St. Petersburg and in Moscow during our time in Russia.
